Woodinville Winery Tours by Private SUV: A Planning Guide

July 5, 2026 ·7 min read

Four districts, more than a hundred tasting rooms and one sensible way to see them — with someone else driving.

Woodinville sits about thirty minutes north-east of downtown Seattle and holds more than a hundred tasting rooms — without a single vineyard in most of them. The grapes come over the Cascades from the Columbia Valley; the barrels, the winemakers and the tasting bars are here. That concentration is exactly what makes it a great chauffeured day.

The four districts

  • Hollywood District — the classic estates, including the big names with lawns and picnic space. Best in the early afternoon.
  • Warehouse District — small-production, garage-style rooms. The most interesting pours and the least polish.
  • West Valley — a compact cluster, easy to walk between two or three rooms.
  • Downtown Woodinville — walkable, with restaurants for a late lunch between tastings.

How many wineries in a day?

Three to four. Every group that plans six ends up rushing the last two and remembering none of them. A tasting flight takes forty-five minutes to an hour if you actually talk to the person pouring, and the drive between districts is five to ten minutes.

A sensible schedule

Pick up at 11 a.m., first tasting at 11:45, lunch at 1:30, two more rooms in the afternoon, home by 5:30. That is a six-and-a-half-hour hire — comfortably inside the hourly minimums and long enough that nobody feels hurried.

Vehicle and group size

A luxury SUV covers up to six people. Above that, the Sprinter is the better call: standing height, easy entry after a few tastings, and space for the cases you will inevitably buy. For twelve or more, a mini bus keeps the group together instead of splitting it across two cars.

Practical details

  • Book tasting appointments in advance — most rooms now require them on weekends.
  • Tell us if you want a route suggested around a preference: reds, sparkling, or small producers.
  • Bottles ride in the cargo area, not on laps. Bring a cooler in summer.
  • Charter services require a deposit and a 14-day cancellation notice, so lock the date once the group is confirmed.
